A Little Busier Now

Hi everyone.

Well, things have picked up a little at work now, so I am no longer as bored as I was the other day. Thanks to Emma for providing llama and badger goodness for me this morning..... they helped relieve the last remaining bouts of tedium.
To those interested in my dreams: they are mine, my precious. No way I am sharing my dreams on here. Especially the ones with me and my wife.... thats not for prying eyes....
Heard about Pro Hart this morning? Sad day for the art world, thats for sure. And a sad day for those of us who grew up with those fantastic ads from Stainmaster "Mr Hart, what a mess!" that screened on TV every so often. An iconic Australian, and a sad loss to our heritage. And to add to that, the guy who sang "Rhinestone Cowboy" died the other day! People dropping like flies everywhere. No doubt most of you will be unaware of who Richard Fleischer was. He also died the other day. For film fans like myself, this is a sad event. Fleischer, son of Max Fleischer (who did all the early animatec cartoons of Superman, Popeye etc etc) directed numerous films including Soylent Green, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (for Disney), Conan The Barbarian, and Red Sonja, among others. While he was getting on in years, his contribution to the film industry was substantial.
All these great people dropping off..... whats next?

Doing nothing

Hi all

well, its pretty slow here at work right now, and the time is ripe for a good blog post. Problem is, there's nothing much to type about. So i thought I'd just sit here and watch the screen.

Hmm..

Yep, still not a lot to write about.

I wonder if Colin has found a job yet.

Hmmm....

Angela leaves this weekend for Korea. No doubt over on her own blog, she'll be going through all her emotional states. I might just quickly shoot over to her Blog and have a look.

Back later.

You can stop reading now.

Seriously.

Okay, thats getting stupid.

Hmmm. "Log out" looks good right now.

Going.

Gone.

Bludging at Work: A True Aussie Talent

Ahh, the lack of work at work makes employees jumpy. Do you spend time scouring the internet for porn or other salacious material, or engage in cleaning your desk and drinking coffee?
For me, right now, things are painfully slow. There is almost no freight anywhere, and we are sitting about twiddling our thumbs. So I thought I'd do something unusual and post more than once today.

Movies I have seen recently:

Syriana: Clooney won Best Supporting Actor for this film, and it's easy to see why. The film is staggeringly slow, but brilliant nonetheless. Intelligent and well acted, its a little confusing to begin with as all the major characters are introduced, but once you get your head around it, its excellent ensemble material. And a great/terrible ending.

Stealth: Dumb, shallow and brainless. Utterly enjoyable though, as long as you aren't looking for anything resembling logic of intelligent thought. Completely the opposite of Syriana. Effects are occasionally dodgy, but thats not really a problem for a film like this. Its all happening too fast to really care.

Cinderella Man: Underrated film about a boxer who comes from nowhere and pummels the fight world into submission. Crowe is great, Zellweger is his equal, and Giamatti is a scream. Lacklustre box-office returns were a crime against this film. Grab a copy and see it.

Sin City: Violent, crazy and pulp noir, Rodriguez makes up for Once Upon A Time In Mexico with this CGI-fest thats so far above Star Wars for technical achievement its dazzling. This is true pioneering filmmaking. Bweare: its pretty gory and occasionally a nude person struts across the screen. You have been warned. Special mention to Bruce Willis and Mickey Rourke for their work in this film.

Serenity: Dazzlingly shot but ultimately empty sci-fi resurrection of TV series Firefly into motion picture form, I was slightly baffled by the characters interations at first, and wished I had more background for them (I never saw the TV show). As it was, the special effects were typicaly awesome (with only a few exceptions) and the best fight scenes since The Matrix.

Flight Of The Phoenix:
Better than average remake of the 60's film, with Dennis Quaid leading the desperate crew out of the desert and into a special effects/adventure yarn thats entertaining enough without straining the brain cells. Eowyn has a great supporting role.

Just Friends: Great little PG comedy with Ryan Reynolds (Blade Trinity, Van Wilder) that I found utterly hysterical, but Lisa I don't think enjoyed as much as I did. We went in with my low expectations being dashed quite quickly, and I was entertained the entire time. Better than I thought it would be.

Thats about it for recently seen films. I cannot wait for Harry Potter 4 or King Kong at the start of April. Well, work has arrived, so I must go and do something.
Might check back with you later.

Have a good one.

Sleeplaughing

Just recently, I have not had a great amount of sleep. I wanted more, but couldn't get it. I always wake up about three hours before my alarm goes off, and I can never get back to sleep properly.
Anyway, thats not what I wanted to mention. Last night I dreamed I was ten pin bowling and my work collegues were the pins. When i got a strike, I laughed so hard that I woke up laughing. Lisa asked me if I was alright because to her, it sounded like I was crying about something, I was giggling like a pixie. Ever happened to you? I have never woken up laughing about something I was dreaming about. I occasionally wake up with a start after "falling" or "tripping" on something in a dream, but never laughing. It was weird.
Anyway, I just wanted to mention that as something bizarre. Hopefully, it doesn't happen to anybody else because it felt really weird.
Enjoy your day.

Oscars: It's hard for Pimps and Gangstas

Last night, the biggest entertainment farce commited on TV wasn't Crash winning Best Picture over Brokeback Mountain. Nope, it was that awful Its Hard Out Here For A Pimp winning Best Original Song.
While the entire Oscar show lacked true spark, it came with a bang once that song started up. And while I hoped against hope that Dolly Parton would get the gong for her foot tapping song from Transamerica, it galled me to see those hip-hopping gangstas write a song with limited intelligent social comment win the coveted gong. To be honest, I am glad that Crash won because it means that Brokeback Mountain didn't. As one who follows the movies, I was kind of annoyed at how much press BM had received, and so was delighted to see the smiles on the faces of those involved with Crash. I haven't seen Crash yet, but since it's now out to rent on DVD, i might pop down to the video store to pick it up and have a watch.
The other big thing for me last night was the host, John Stewart. Personally, I liked his approach, and although he didn't get the roaring laughter Whoopi or Billy might have received, it was a steady, amusing hosting job. And he wasn't over the top.
So, with another bunch of Oscars over with, its fair to say that this year the spread has been pretty good. Plenty of films feceived Oscar this year, rather than one getting the entire lot. Return of The King was a great film, but did it really need to win eleven Oscars? Well, yeah, it did, but the point is it kind of hogs the glory from other films that were equally deserving of the nod.
I have been watching the Oscar shows without missing one since 1993, and with the exception of this year and the year bloody Shakespeare in Love beat Saving Private Ryan for Best Picture, I have agreed with every choice for best film. Clint Eastwoods Mystic River is still the best film since the millennium. A Beautiful Mind was lucky, and many people say it shouldn't have won, but it did and you'd have a tough argument on your hands from me about who was more deserving. Last night, with the chocolate block in one hand and a bottle of fizzy drink in the other, i enjoyed the glamour and glitz of Hollywood. Althought, sometimes its all grossly unfair. Like John Stewart remarked after the Pimp song got the gong, "Martin Scorsese - 0 Oscars, It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp - 1 Oscar." Yep, the world is an unfair place. Like Jennifer Garner not tripping up on the Oscar stage and revealing herself for the entire world to see.
Oh wait, that thought should have remained in my head. Oh well.
Bad luck Heath. Bad luck Brokeback. Well done Phil Hoffman and Crash.

Emma, are you reading this?

Yo.

Emma keeps hassling me about my posting frequency. So in answer to her request for "more frequent posting" I thought I'd just mention something. She just posted this in a previous blog:

"You must post more often.I'm an internet addict, and i get sad when my friends' blogs haven't updated since the last time I checked (about 3 hours ago). Please post... for my sanity...And I'm glad to hear the Pad Night was good. I was sick. We shall try and come next time."

Emma, my dear sweet girl, you really must try and find other hobbies that get you away from the keyboard. You know the great big ball of gas burning high up in the sky? That's called the sun, and I think you need to see it a tad more, eh? Less radiation from a computer monitor, and more radiation from a natural source of Vitamin D. Oh, yes, I will try my utmost to keep you sane, but I am afraid that I am too late in that regard anyway. Well, since you requested more frequent Blogs, I shall certainly try.

Let me just state, for the record, however, that it's not always certain that I post all the time. Unlike Mrs Muhlack and Ms Eckerman, who post virtually every hour of the day, I am unable to afford that luxury without signifigant pressure from my supervisor. Whilst it may look like I have plenty of time to spend whiling away the multitude of free hours I have in employment, I, in fact, do not. I do post as regularly as I am able, but other things take up my time, such as reading movie websites and things that interest me. Google is my friend. And chatting with my work associates. And drinking coffee. And daydreaming whilst looking out the window.... and thinking about Lisa..... and ....

Well, you get the picture.

You'll get a blog when I get around to it.

Thanks to all who came to the movie night, it was fun and nobody there was sick, thankfully. More movie nights to follow (see previous blog regarding the state of Movie Nights) and hopefully, and increase in numbers.

All the best.

"I live a life of luxury. I cannot think of a single time I actually worked in my entire life. I am a lucky man, right? Not so. I am so work unfriendly its actually boring to be me. Everyone I know is slack. It's damn unbecoming of them to not have to work when I am trying desperately to find something to keep me occupied. Work is the great motivator, the great allowance. You work, you can do things. Its self-approval at its highest form."
