When Worlds Collide

Its hard to fathom exactly where the technology gap between my parents and myself began to occur. Perhaps it was with mobile phone technology, something which mum has managed to grasp but Dad is still confused by, or maybe it was the advent of DVD. Last night I had to go through my uncles pirated DVD collection and chose films that dad could perhaps enjoy whilst out of action with his operation. his recovery is expected to last a month or three, so his television viewing habits will undoubtably spiral towards a zenith by years end. This fact in mind, it's hard to imagine dad enjoying Sin City, or Kill Bill, or even Harry Potter, so chosing from a select few modern films was quite difficult. Eventually I opted for the more dad-friendly Tom Hanks material such as Green Mile and Cast Away (Wiiiiiiiiilson!!!). Dad goes for the old adventure westerns though, something they just do not make in Hollywood these days, and its a problem he has with the whole movie industry. The fact that things evolve and change is not something he can either fathom or appreciate, and would rather watch the latest John Wayne cowboy flick than Will Smith smiting alien scum or Spielbergs latest cute-fest.
Had tea with Mum and Dad last night. Pizza was dry and dreadful. Conversation leaned towards Dad going on about nurses (which annoyed Lisa no end) and Mum getting cranky for him not doing what the nurses at the hospital told him to do for his recuperation.

Crap, I have to go back to work. Well, see you next time.

War of The Worlds

Yo all!

I finally got my copy of War Of The Worlds this weekend, and managed to give it a spin on Sunday morning. What a great film! Better than I remember seeing in the cinema. Tom Cruise does a great job as the Everyman character just merely trying to survive the apocolyptic actions of the alien invaders. Suspense, action, brilliant effects and a great script make this the action film of the year. And the DVD sounds awesome! DTS sound and the bass is just incredible. You really feel like you are right in the middle of the action.

Apart from that, Lisa bought a whole stack of girl movies. Just designed to make me retch uncontrollably.

Said goodbye to Christy last night.... it was strangely sad in a way, knowing that she might not come back. I signed her bear though, so I feel good. Right as I write this, she's in the air on her way home.

Movie night this week: Madagascar. Looking forward to it. Then, I might have to have a break. Rest up and recover my energy.

MORTAL THOUGHTS

Hi all,

Yes, its been a while since I last blogged. Sue me for not providing continuous entertainment for you all.

Dad went into hospital last week for a triple bypass. Not something that happens to our family everyday, and something I hadn't really contemplated as being a problem for our family generally. The doctors say that he was about 6 weeks away from a heart attack. Pretty sobering stuff really, and it kind of makes you think about your own health once you see your father lying in a hospital bed with his chest torn open and sewed back up again.

"Sorry bout your heart packing up there mate, but lets just hack our way through your ribcage and root around a bit with everyting. That'll fix things up for you!"

It makes you realise how flimsy your health really is. I recently went into hospital for an operation to correct a personality disorder, kinda One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest style, and it made me think about my own mortality a little. Not that you can do a lot about it, ya know. When ya time comes, it comes in a hurry. I dont think there's a person on Earth who, for a split second or two, would really hate to die. No matter what faith or belief you have about where you are going once you buy the farm, there has to be that utterly human condition of "what if?" about death that sticks in your mind's eye at the last moment. The great chasm of death spreads itself open before you, and just before going "thank God I know I am going to heaven!" there would have to be a moment where you just look down and think "holy frig thats a long way to fall." Just for a moment. It would be inhuman not to think like that for a moment.

Well, Lisa and I are going shopping for a new fridge in the new year. Habs wants his fridge back.

Anybody know where we can get a great bargain on a new fridge?

Cheers for now.....

Bike Buying

Lisa wants a bike.

Thursday, we shall go to Marion and get her a bike. But the best thing for me about that is that, as a compromise, we also have to get the DVD of Star Wars III Revenge Of The Sith!!!! The good thing about being married is that you get to make fun compromises like that. So, for her, a bunch of time to exercise with a bike, riding around West Beach et al... and for me, the thunderous tones of John Williams blaring from the New Pad and out into suburbia. Ahhh, bliss.

Boy, is november filling out quickly. Weddings, housewarmings, farewells (cya Christy!) and stuff.....Lisa and i have almost no time left for movie nights this month! Blast! Oh well, its getting closer to Christmas apparently, so thats the best excuse for all this stuff starting to happen.

Thank goodness I have no interest in the Melbourne Cup at all.Our entire work team has gone absolutely barmy with betting and stuff. Personally, I am not a gambler, although often i feel like my entire life has been one big race to the finish. Thankfully, that feeling has now passed. But the horse race that stops the nation? Puhhh lease.

Going now.

I have gerkhin to eat.

And chocolate.
